COURSE SUMMARY

UETDRRF003 – Perform Pole Top Rescue covers the skills and knowledge required to utilise pole top rescue procedures as an emergency procedure required in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a pole top and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution and rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for rescue, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Pole Top Rescue training is designed to train persons working at height on poles that support overhead electrical lines, to affect a rescue of a work mate who is now suspended in their PPE. This unit will require the participant to climb the pole past the victim, establish a rescue system on the pole and the worker, release the worker from the device they are suspended by, and control lower that person to the ground. 

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace subject to regulations for undertaking of electrical work.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 2 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)

• Face to Face – 6 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
• Refresher training – 4 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates

WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants are required to be physically able to wear PPE/C. Participants also require a level of physical ability to complete this course in order to be deemed competent or issued with a statement of attainment.

Maximum of 6 Trainees per course.

• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:

• Applying work health and safety (WHS)/relevant occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, including the use of risk control measures
• Inspecting and placing rescue equipment
• Assessing hazards to rescuer, victim, and others
• Controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
• Isolation procedures, where appropriate
• Safe approach distances (SAD) & maintaining safe approach distance appropriate to pole top rescue
• Performing pole top rescue in accordance with workplace procedures
• Removing victim to safe location/place of safety
• Involvement of external emergency services
• Completion of shut down procedures

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
