RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces covers the skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in the resources and infrastructure industries. It is appropriate for those working in operational roles undertaking work in confined spaces.

RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined specifies the competency required to work in a confined space (enclosed or partially enclosed) for the purpose of carrying out work or inspections. It includes the minimum criteria for competency assessment. This unit includes entry and exit procedures, assessment of associated risks, how to operate safely in a confined space which is at atmospheric pressure during occupancy. And cleaning up.

The target group will be construction workers and operators who require training in entering and working safely in confined spaces.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 2 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)
  • Face to Face – 7 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Refresher training – 7 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates
WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants are required to be physically able to wear PPE; and enter and work in confined spaces. Participants also require a level of physical ability to complete this course in order to be deemed competent or issued with a statement of attainment.

Maximum of 10 Trainees per course.

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:

  • Side entry into confined space
  • Top entry into confined space
  • Ground level entry into confined space
  • Complete a risk assessment (hirac) – Job Hazard Analysis – Safe Work Method Statement
  • Complete an entry permit

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
