PUASAR032 – UNDERTAKE VERTICAL RESCUE

COURSE SUMMARY

PUASAR032 – Undertake Vertical Rescue involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake vertical rescues in a range of emergency situations in natural and manmade environments. It includes a range of vertical rescue situations, preparing and responding to rescue situations, assessing rescue scenes, establishing vertical rescue systems and performing in and terminating rescues.

The unit is applicable to personnel from the emergency services, volunteer organisations and associated industries.

The skills in this course are applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 3 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)

• Face to Face – 48 hours – 4 days (minimum) – full face to face course
• Refresher training – 48 hours – 4 days (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates

WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants must have sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course. Due to the amount of practical training in this unit, participants must also have the physical capacity to be able to demonstrate vertically removing a casualty from an emergency situation where there may be a risk to life.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Performance tasks – The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:

• Completion of two different types of vertical rescue situations, techniques and locations

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenario:

• Performing vertical rescue and associated tasks

Documentation – The student must complete Vertical Rescue notes for a report form.

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
