PUAFER001 – IDENTIFY, PREVENT & REPORT POTENTIAL FACILITY EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

COURSE SUMMARY

PUAFER001 – Identify, Prevent & Report Potential Facility Emergency Situations applies to a broad range of emergencies and covers the work required before an emergency services and/or specialist response team arrives (not including the specific use of equipment to prevent facility emergency situations).

It will provide the skills and knowledge and most importantly the confidence needed by occupants who are required to be ‘emergency aware’ in their facility. Allowing them to identify and where possible prevent the development of facility emergency situations. Participants will also learn how to minimise the consequences of an emergency and to report if emergency protection systems and/or equipment is compromised.

Specifically, this will include communicating with team members and stakeholders, identifying and reporting situations in a facility that reduce the effectiveness of emergency protection systems and equipment, identifying emergency protection systems and equipment present in a facility and identifying, monitoring and reporting situations that could lead to emergencies in a facility.

All aspects of this course are undertaken in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational policies and procedures and approved safe practices. Facilities are those as specified in Australian Standard 3745 and AS 4083 and are a building, structure or workplace that is, or may be, occupied by people (occupants).

COURSE CONTENT

• Identify, monitor and report situations that could lead to facility emergencies
• Identify, report and correct situations that could prevent facility emergencies from being safely handled

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 2 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)

• Face to Face – 3 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
• Refresher training – 3 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates

WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

Participants are required to be physically capable of assessing a workplace to identify hazards and prevent emergency situations.

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Performance tasks – The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:

• Identifying emergency protection systems and equipment

Documentation – The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:

• Workplace emergency checklist

Case study – The student must complete the following written case study:

• Hazardous work

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
