COURSE SET – HEIGHTS RESCUE

COURSE SUMMARY

Course Set – Heights Rescue teaches the skills and knowledge required to complement RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights. Work Safely at Heights included instruction on rescue systems and is a requirement for a number of industries and is appropriate for those working in operational roles where they are required to perform work at heights.

Falls are a major hazard that can lead to serious injury and even death. Fall hazards can be found in a number of industries, whether working from heights or at ground level into holes, trenches and pits.

If an employer has personnel working where they can fall from one height to another and there is risk of injury, then a provision must be made to prevent falls. A person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) who implements a fall-arrest system as a measure to control risk, must establish emergency and rescue procedures. Appropriate equipment must be made available and appropriate training must be given under the National Workplace Health and Safety Act and in particular; the National Code of Practice for Managing Risks of Falls at the Workplace.

Heights rescue will provide you with training in a number of heights rescue systems, techniques and practical scenarios for you to participate in and enable you to comply with current WHS Legislation. By the end of this course, you will be competent to implement a heights safety rescue procedure on your work site and conduct rescue operations if the need arises.

This course is delivered and assessed on behalf of Health Security Education Pty Ltd RTO 40907 by ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 2 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)

• Face to Face – 8 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
• Refresher training – 8 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates

WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants are required to have sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course. Participants also require a level of physical ability to complete this course in order to be deemed competent or issued with a statement of attainment.

PREREQUISITES

• HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
• RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights; which must be completed in the previous 6 months with ERT Rescue Group.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:

• Identifying and interpreting work requirements
• Identifying and interpreting work procedures and instructions
• Accessing, interpreting and applying technical and safety information
• Identifying required safety systems including fall protection and associated equipment
• Accessing and installing equipment and check it is correct
• Conducting checks and inspections on the area and equipment
• Assessing hazards and risk associated with working at heights and implement control methods
• Safely perform work at heights
• Cleaning up work area

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
